The Purpose of Life - to find God
Many people are searching for the purpose of life. They are looking for the reason they were born, as well as trying to decide where they are going when they die.
Many people are racing to and fro saying they must “find themselves.” Think about that for a moment. What are they really saying? They’re mixed up. They don’t know what they want. They say one thing and do another. They don’t feel good about themselves. They feel sorry for themselves. They’re selfish and want things only for themselves, even at the cost of hurting others. They want wealth, and if they get it, they still want more (Prov. 28:20, 22; 23:4; Haggai 1:6).
Wake up, everyone! Isn’t it time to wake up? The purpose of life is to find God. God says that if you will seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might, you will find Him (Deut. 4:29). But if you don’t, you won’t.
You seek God by beginning to live your life to please Him each day instead of ignoring Him each day (Acts 10:35). If you do ignore Him daily, He will ignore you daily, but if you live to please Him daily, He lives to please you daily. Sure sounds right, doesn’t it? That’s because it is right (1 John 3:22)!
Please look up Romans 3:10-12, Psalm 14:1-3 and 53:1-3. Then, underline these phrases: “There is none righteous,” “There is none who understands,” and “There is none who seeks for God.” Next, underline: “There is none who does good [for God], not even one.”
Why do you suppose Jesus Christ said we are to glorify the Father daily by doing good works, thus letting our lights shine (Matt. 5:16; 25:33-40)? He said this because that’s how you seek God, find Him and obey Him. It’s how you keep Jesus Christ’s words (John 8:51). But you cannot get weary and give up (Gal. 6:9; 2 Thess. 3:13). Rejoice! You have found the purpose of life…but only if you do it, and put Jesus Christ’s words into daily action in your life!
