The following is a list of things to go over in preparation for baptism. We recommend going through all the articles carefully on the Baptism page first, make sure to look up all the Scriptures given. Then we recommend you use the references below as another step towards your decision. Do one a day; take time to ponder these things, pray about them and study them in your Bible. Some may take more than a day, that’s okay too. Don’t rush it.
After that, is a list of questions you can ask yourself, with links to resources for the answers. This too will help you to see if you are ready for this next step in your walk with God. Again, use one a day and really study them and pray to God for understanding.
The very last item is a prayer, you can use this as a guide on how you might pray when you are ready. You can also use it as an additional support, and simply pray along with it the day you decide to be baptized.
There are no fancy instructions on how to baptize. It is a simple act in the Bible of making a commitment to God, along with being dipped or immersed in water. All the examples in the Bible show people being fully immersed in water for baptism, therefore this would be preferred. Full immersion is the act of new birth. It is the act of showing Him you are ready to leave your old way of life behind and live His Way going forward in your life. Just remember, once you put your hand to the plow…you don’t want to turn back.
Definition of Baptism:
The word baptizo in Greek, translated baptize in the New Testaments, means to dip or immerse.
Acts 8:36-38; As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, “Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?” And he ordered that the chariot stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him.
Luke 9:62; But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
